Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 May 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Voca ("Voca", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Voca mobile app or this website (together, the "Service").
We aim to collect as little personal data as possible and to be transparent about what we do collect. If you have questions, email support@voca-learn.com.
Who we are
Voca is operated by the team behind the dev.voca.app mobile application. This policy applies to the app available on the App Store and Google Play, and to the marketing site at this domain.
What we collect
We collect the following categories of information when you use the Service:
- Account information. When you sign in, our identity provider (Firebase Authentication) issues you a unique user ID and stores the email address or third-party identifier you authenticated with.
- Learning data. Your selected target language, native language, completed scenarios, vocabulary progress (spaced repetition state), session scores, and CEFR estimates.
- Voice recordings and transcripts. When you complete a roleplay, your speech is sent to a speech-to-text provider to be transcribed and to our AI tutor for scoring. Recordings are not retained in long-term storage after the session is scored. Transcripts are retained as part of your session history so you can review them.
- Subscription and purchase data. RevenueCat receives your purchase events from Apple and Google so we can validate your entitlement to Voca Pro. We receive a customer ID, entitlement status, expiry date, and store of purchase.
- Device and diagnostic data. Crash reports, error logs, and basic device metadata (OS, app version, locale) used to debug problems and improve quality.
- Usage analytics. Anonymous events about which screens you visit and which scenarios you complete, so we can understand what's working.
We do not collect contacts, photos, location, advertising IDs, or browse history.
How we use it
- To run the Service — deliver voice sessions, score your speaking, track your progress.
- To manage your subscription and prevent abuse of the free tier.
- To diagnose crashes and improve quality.
- To respond to you when you contact support.
We do not use your data to train third-party advertising models, and we do not sell it.
How we share it
We share data only with the service providers that make the Service work:
- Anthropic — large language model that powers the AI tutor and scoring. Transcripts and conversation state are sent for inference. See Anthropic's privacy practices.
- Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), crash reporting, hosting. Data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure.
- OpenAI — speech transcription. Audio is sent for transcription and is not retained by us once transcribed.
- RevenueCat — subscription and entitlement management.
- Apple and Google — payment processing through the App Store and Google Play.
We share data with these processors only as needed to operate the Service. Each is bound by their own data processing terms.
We may also disclose data if required by law, to protect our rights, or as part of a corporate transaction (acquisition, merger), in which case you will be notified.
Retention
- Voice recordings: discarded after scoring.
- Transcripts and session scores: retained for as long as your account exists, so you can review history.
- Account data: retained while your account is active.
- Diagnostic data: retained for up to 90 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app under Settings → Account → Delete account, or by emailing support@voca-learn.com. Deletion removes your account record, learning history, and subscription metadata from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain records (for example, financial records).
Children
Voca is not directed at children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use the Service. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (UK, EU, California, and others), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email support@voca-learn.com and we will respond within the statutory window.
Security
We use HTTPS for all network traffic, encryption at rest for our databases, and least-privilege access for our team. No service is perfectly secure, but we work hard to keep yours safe.
International transfers
Voca processes data in the United Kingdom, the European Union, and the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside your country, we rely on standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms required by law.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect. Minor changes (clarifications, formatting) will be reflected by updating the "last updated" date above.
